Navigation: Home > Scratch
This is a brief overview of what you need to know about Scratch before you create your play. More detail can be found here.
Creating an Account
Before you start, it's a good idea for each participant (or team) to create an account in Scratch.
The Scratch Canvas
Scratch makes programming much like creating a play and the Scratch  Canvas has everything you need for producing one!
Picture
The main five areas of the canvas are:
  1. The Stage*, where the play is performed
  2. The Backdrops, which provide the scenery
  3. The Roles or Characters (Sprites in Scratch)
  4. Script Fragments, which can be used to form scripts
  5. The Script which each role (or backdrop) follows
Above the Script Fragments, you'll also see three tabs:
  1. Code - the scripts fragments themselves
  2. Costumes - different poses or costumes for the roles
  3. Sounds - various sounds that can be incorporated
* IMPORTANT:  to run the scene from the beginning, click on the Green Flag. To stop it again, click on the Red Button.
